                                                           JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE:             Remediation/Keyboarding Paraprofessional

QUALIFICATIONS:  This is a Highly Qualified Position. You must have 2 years of college credit OR be willing to take the Para Pro Test.

REPORTS TO: Director of Title I, Director of Support Services, Assistant Superintendent

pos1TION PURPOSE: The goal of Title 1 instruction is for students to be successfU1 in the classroom instructional program. Since Title I supplies supplemental assistance in the interactive settings, the intent is that this instructional support will enable students to make even greater gains.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily.

  1. Administers, scores, and records such diagnostic tests as the Director of Title I recommends for individual students.
  2. Maintains attendance records, student records, and lesson plans as assigned by the Director of Title I.
  3. Completes reports to Director of Title I in a professional and timely fashion.
  4. Demonstrates knowledge of subject matter.
  5. Works with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce and support reading skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  6. Devises special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students, their needs, interests, and abilities.
  7. Supports students in early intervention strategies, enrichment work, and reading skills development.
  8. Alerts the Director of Title I to any special problems about an individual student or any other problems.
  9. Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expectated of fully licensed teachers.
  10. Participates in scheduled in-service training and parent meetings.
  11. Maintains the degree of control and discipline which would be maintained being consistent with the teacher's disciplinary procedures.
  12. Provides positive verbal and non-verbal reinforcement to students.
  13. Establishes high expectations for students.
  14. Creates an environment in which learning can take place.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. High School Diploma or equivalent.
  2. Professionalism
  3. Patience and understanding
  4. Ability to work well with children in small groups and individually.
  5. Ability to work with teachers, Title I staff, and Title I Director.
  6. Necessary skills needed for the work to be performed, as dictated by the job requirements.
  7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of School Trustees may find appropriate and approve.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
